Book an Event
Oregon Koto-Kai gives nearly 30 performances a year throughout Oregon and Washington in addition to hosting our own three seasonal concerts in the Summer, Fall and Winter. Our performances are both artistic and educational, delighting audiences in the Portland metro region and beyond while spreading cultural awareness.
Our ensemble is made up of about 20 current members and we have a repertoire of around 80 songs (and growing). Typically, we’ll send three players to play at cultural events, and we’re happy to cutomize our set to fit the theme. Our repertoire includes traditional Japanese koto music, modern music, popular western arrangements, and originals. We would love to perform for your event too.
Please let us know the details of your event in the form and we’ll reply as soon as we can.
FAQ
How far in advance should I book?
Preferably 2 months in advance or more, but depending on our schedule we may be able to accommodate with shorter notice.
Should I provide a sound system?
If the venue is small or the acoustics are good, we do not need sound system but still one microphone for speaking would be ideal.
If the venue is big and you expect large audience, we would appreciate if you could provide a full sound system.
- We would need one microphone for each instrument and preferably an extra microphone for speaking.
- If Oregon Koto-Kai is expected to bring a sound system, we charge $50.
- See the photo below for microphone setting example.
Can you perform outdoors?
Yes, but we do not wish for our instruments to be exposed to direct sun/ rain.
How much space do you need?
The minimum space for two kotos is 4’x13’. Please see this attachment for more information.
Anything else I should know?
Please provide parking close to the performance area. We would appreciate if you could provide parking spaces for each player, but if there are not enough space we could carpool.
If possible it would be ideal to have access to a private room to set up instruments, warm up, store cases, bags, etc.
We need 5 minutes to set up our instruments on the stage and 5 minutes to take them down. Depending on the location, we may need accommodation.
